Nomination may be sought

PA Wellington The Police Association’s secretary, Dr R. A. Moodie, said yesterday that he might seek the National Party nomination for Wairarapa in 1987. He had dropped plans to challenge the sitting National member, the Minister of Police, Mr Couch, this year. He also reversed his earlier intention to stand in Wairarapa either for Labour or as an Independent. Dr Moodie said yesterday

that he wanted the National Government returned to power this year. The “Evening Post” newspaper quoted Dr Moodie as saying that Mr Couch would have lost his seat had he (Dr Moodie) stood this year. “There is little doubt about that,” the newspaper quoted him as saying. He might try to stand for National in Wairarapa in 1987, he said. The only other electorate he would consider would be Waitaki, held by the Minister of Lands, Mr Elworthy.
