Pledge for contest
PA Wellington The wine industry had pledged $50,000 towards the cost of staging the 1984 “Miss Universe” contest in New Zealand, said the Minister of Tourism, Mr Talbot, yesterday. The chairman of the Wine Institute of New Zealand, Mr Mate Brajkovich, had pledged $30,000 in cash and $20,000 worth of wine products. The cash contribution represents 3 per cent of the $1 million Mr Talbot seeks from New Zealand producers, who he says will benefit greatly from the publicity generated by staging the competition here.
