VACANCY 780 SCIENTIST (Computer Liaison) A vacancy exists within the Water and Soil Directorate, Head Office, for a graduate to establish and maintain a hydrological microcomputer programme library, to assist in the development, implementation and documentation of water and soil computer programmes, including hydrological models, and to provide programming support for hydrological data processing operations. Qualifications desired are an engineering or science degree with an emphasis on mathematics and computing. A knowledge of water and soil related subjects is desirable but not essential. VACANCY 781 ENGINEERING GEOLOGIST THE Ministry of Works and Development, Central Laboratories at Gracefield, Lower Hutt are concerned with the testing of engineering materials and the application of experimental techniques in support of the department’s design work. A vacancy exists for an engineering geologist in the Geomechanics Section of the Laboratory which is Involved with the investigation and testing of soil and rock materials related to civil engineering design and construction work. The engineering geologist would form part of a team of engineers, scientists and technicians working in this Section. The work consists of both field and laboratory operations of varied content Including geological logging and testing of materials from boreholes, geological advice on slope stability and foundation investigation and design of structures. Some of the major projects are carried out jointly with the Engineering Geology Section of the Geological Survey, DSIR. Applicants should hold a BSc or higher degree in geology and have had post-graduate work or experience in the field of engineering geology. WHANGAREI OIL REFINERY EXPANSION PROJECT PLATE WELDERS CBI are field erecting large oil storage tanks for the Refinery Expansion at Marsden Point. Additional experienced plate welders are required to make x-ray quality welds in plate steel in thicknesses up to 30mm. Successful applicants must pass ASME Section IX 20mm plate test in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Expected period of employment is from February through June 1984. Normal travelling costs and single status accommodation will be provided to those employed from outside the Whangarei area.
