Prince holds talks in Wgtn

PA Wellington Prince Nawaf ibn Abdul Aziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia made a flying visit to Wellington yesterday for Ministerial talks on investment and New Zealand diplomatic representation in his country. He met the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Muldoon, and said later that he expected a New Zealand diplomatic post to be established in Saudi Arabia “very soon.” No official announcement has yet been made by the Government on plans to set up the post. Investment discussions with Sir Robert and other Cabinet Ministers were of a general nature, the prince said, with no specific proposals put forward. He said he would be happy to invest further in New Zealand if he was presented with any worthwhile prospects. Prince Nawaf is a large shareholder in the Saudi New Zealand Capital Corporation and a Coromandel sheep farm. The farm is being used for an experimental lean sheep breeding programme, to produce meat specifically for the Arab market. The

results of the two-year programme were “most encouraging,” the prince said.

As well as meeting Sir Robert, Prince Nawaf held talks with the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Maclntyre, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Cooper, and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Templeton.
