Festival drink ban lifted

PA Auckland The Sweetwaters Music Festival will taste a little sweeter to some patrons, the organisers having lifted the alcohol ban yesterday. The festival will be held on February 3,4, and 5 at Pukekawa and until yesterday organisers had said no alcohol would be allowed to be taken on the site. Beer gardens would provide for drinking alcohol. A Sweetwaters spokesman, Ms Jane West, said the ban was intended to alleviate alcohol-related prob-

lems but it was obviously popular with the public to take alcohol. An official for the organisers of the Sweetwaters South festival said last evening that the ban on alcohol would remain for the festival at Queen Elizabeth II Park on February 6, Waitangi Day. This was one of the conditions the festival had to abide by in getting the venue. Sports clubs and other organisations using the park also had to follow the rule, the official said.
