Pilot scheme on Ford guarantees

A lifetime guarantee on replacement parts fitted during normal servicing of Ford cars might be offered by all Ford dealers in Britain who hope to divert owners now doing their own servicing back to their recognised Ford servicing outlets. The pilot scheme has been announced in Britain this month and it will involve 54 dealerships dotted about the country. A similar scheme has been operating in the United States for two years and if the pilot scheme is successful, it is expected that Ford of Britain will introduce it throughout its more than 1200-strong dealer network. Under the scheme, when a motorist takes his car to

one of the 54 dealers for a routine service or for specific repairs, the parts replaced or repaired will be guaranteed for as long as the owner keeps the car. If the parts break or the repairs fail, replacement will be free of charge. The scheme will cover cars of any age, Ford covering the cost of the replacement component and the dealer the cost of the labour. The lifetime warranty will not cover consumable items such as spark plugs, oil and air filters and light bulbs. It is expected that the pilot scheme will operate for at least a year and, if the reaction is favourable, an all-dealer scheme could be established.
