McEnroe-Lendl clash

PA Auckland The world’s two top tennis players, John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl, will play an exhibition match at Stanley Street on Sunday, February 19.

Mr Paul Gleeson, the Auckland manager for the International Management Group, said on Friday that the match would go ahead, but refused to disclose the fees the players would

receive. “We consider there is more at stake than money when the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 meet,” said Mr Gleeson. “They will not be playing for a stake, but each player will receive a substantial fee.”

The match, which will start at 5 p.m., will be sponsored by the Winfield Tobacco Company and be known as the Winfield Challenge.
