Kurow truck driver killed
A Kurow truck driver died yesterday when he was crushed under the wheels of his fully-laden stock trailer in the Hakataramea Valley, North Otago. He was Reginald George Dick, aged 38, married, of Kurow. Mr Dick had stopped the truck to unfasten a gate on what appeared to be flat ground, said Constable M. J. Buckman, of the Duntroon police. When the Waitaki Transport truck, laden with sheep, started to roll forward, Mr Dick tried to trigger the trailer’s emergency brake button. He missed the button, and the trailer ran over him. The truck continued down the drive of the Hakataramea station, went over the road, up a bank, through a fence and came to rest in a paddock.
