Mafia cocaine gang netted in Argentina
NZPA-Reuter Buenos Aires The Argentine police have seized 60kg of pure cocaine worth up to SUSSOO million and smashed a smuggling gang controlled by the Corsican Mafia, says the head of the drug squad. Chief Inspector Luis ALberto Brizuela told NZPAReuters that the drug squad had arrested 12 people at a Buenos Aires apartment as the drug was being divided among eight couriers for
distribution to the United States, France, Spain, and Italy. It was the biggest drug haul in Argentina and dealt a severe blow to international traffickers, he said. Mr Brizuela said the cocaine had been brought from Bolivia and was worth $3OO million to $5OO million at street prices, depending on how much it was diluted. Those arrested included Italians, Brazilians and Bolivians, he said.
