Mohair price peaks

A record average price of $l5 a kilogram was paid for 21,000 kg of mohair sold in the fourth pool organised by the Mohair Producers’ Association. Purebred A grade kid mohair sold at $25 a kilogram and B grade second-doe mohair made $lO a kilogram, said Mr Richard Macdonald, chairman of the association’s marketing committee.

One bale of first cross mohair, with a micron count of less than 19 and weighing 156.8 kg, sold for $11,500, an average of just over $73 a kilogram. The mohair had been exported to several countries, said Mr Macdonald. Buyers were not interested in kempy (coarse fibre) mohair. The association’s fifth pool is now open.
