PA Wellington A New Zealand Marist priest, the Rev. Robin Leamy, has been appointed Catholic Bishop of Rarotonga. Father Leamy, aged 49, succeeds the present Catholic Bishop of Auckland, the Most Rev. Father Leamy is Provincial of the Marist Province of Oceania, based in Suva, Fiji.

The Catholic Diocese of Rarotonga covers the 14 islands of the Cook group and Niue. The 2827 Catholics in the diocese are served by 13 priests.
