Emerging U.K. band for festival

A rising English band has been signed to replace U2 at the Sweetwaters South music festival at Queen Eliabeth II Park, Christchurch, on February 6. The festival organisers will name the band early next week. The publicity officer, Ms Jane West, said that it was “the best live up-and-coming band in England.”

U2 withdrew from the festival earlier this month because of other commitments. The festival organisers tried unsuccessfully to secure The Stranglers or Echo and. the Bunnymen, two other English groups. If an act from England had not been secured by this week-end, the organisers had had several Australian bands “on stand-by” to choose from to fill the'gap.
