‘The Naked Breast’
Sir,—While I am not normally one to complain, I feel compelled to express my opinion about the hour of blatant exploitation of mankind’s baser instincts I witnessed last night on Television 2. “The Naked Breast” was ostensibly an investigation into the psychological and physical effects of breast v. bottle-feeding. In fact it was just another example of obscenity masquerading as education, a subject that I, as a trainee teacher, know something about. It is time that we caring, dare I say Christian, members of society call a halt to this pseudo-scientific exhibitionism we see all too much of in today’s unhealthy world. “The Naked Breast” was designed by the greatest of designers for the specific purpose of providing sustenance to infants, certainly not to be brazenly displayed on our television screens.—Yours, etc., lAN WEBB. January 18, 1984.
Sir,—l feel compelled to express my utter disgust at TV2’s Tuesday documentary, “The Naked Breast.” While many of your readers will mistakenly see this programme as educational, any Christian can see this programme for what it is — blatant pornography. I can see the benefit in young mothers discussing breast feeding versus bottle feeding in groups to share ideas, but on television where bare breasts were shown constantly, surely not — Yours, etc., PAUL D. BEUMELBURG. January 18, 1984.
