Chch woman leads with 15kg salmon

A 15.33 kg salmon caught by a Christchurch woman, Mrs Betty Weastell, heads the salmon section of the annual Tuckers’ Fishing Competition in Ashburton. Local fishermen, Brian Halkett (14.91 kg and Barry Toneycliffe (14.79 kg fill second and third place. Toneycliffe’s catch, made at the Ashburton River last month, has won him the Hotel Ashburton’s monthly prize for the biggest fish entered in the competition. Other winners of the hotel’s competition are Paul McKenzie (Ashburton) with a 4.33 kg brown trout and K. Nuttridge (Christchurch) with a 3.62 kg rainbow trout. In the rest of the Tuckers’ competition Colin Tipper (Christchurch) heads the best three salmon section with a collective weight of 36.99 kg.
