Boat search
PA Wellington Several boats were scouring Palliser Bay last night r or a pleasure craft with four people on board. The boat was reportedly swept out to sea from the Lake Ferry area about 7 p.m. and its occupants, two adults and two teen-agers, were believed to have no lifejackets or life-saving equipment, said the Wellington police.
A search was started
about 7.45 p.m. with the police launch Lady Elizabeth 2 going to the scene. The launch was joined by other boats, including the Union Steam Ship Company freighter Ngapara. A helicopter was also used for a short while, the police said, but conditions in the area became too rough for its use.
The police said it was presumed the launch’s motor had failed.
