Task too hard
A late declaration by Geoff Howarth saw the Northern Districts-Otago Shell Trophy cricket match fade out to a draw at the University Oval, Dunedin, on Saturday. Howarth set Otago the task of making 251 runs in 101 minutes plus 20 overs after he declared Northern’s second innings at 339 for 7. Northern averaged 2.95 runs an over during its second innings and it appeared unrealistic to expect the Otago batsmen to score more than five runs an over to win the match.
