Herpes award to former wife
NZPA-APDes Moines, lowa An lowa judge has awarded SUSSO,OOO to a retired schoolteacher who sued her former husband because he had infected her with genital herpes during their four-year marriage. Wapello County District Judge Phillip Collett ruled that Mildred McGaw, aged 68, was entitled to damages because her former husband, Elmer Mormann, had failed to reveal that he had the disease. Mrs McGaw and Mr Mormann were married in July, 1978, and divorced in November, 1982. She sued him in June seeking SUSISO,OOO in punitive damages and SUSISO,OOO in compensatory damages, alleging that she had suffered great emotional upset and humiliation from the disease.
