Spinks ‘fighter of year’
NZPA-AFP New York The undisputed world light-heavyweight boxing champion, Michael Spinks, is the World Boxing Council’s “Fighter of the Year.” The award was made for both his performances inside the ring, highlighted by his thrilling defeat of
Dwight Braxton to unite the title, and outside where he helps handicapped children. Spinks, whose brother Leon is a former world heavyweight champion, first rose to prominence when he won the Olympic middleweight title at Montreal in 1976.
