Drivers ignore ban
Christchurch motorists ignored the renewed Friday evening ban on private vehicle access to the northeastern sector of Cathedral Square.
The access ban is designed to keep cars and motor-cycles, but not buses and taxis, from entering the north-eastern sector from 4 p.m to 9 p.m. Last evening vehicles
were travelling freely in both . directions through the north-east sector. A Ministry of Transport officer was in place for some time outside the back of the Cathedral turning north-bound traffic into Worcester Street, but otherwise cars and motor-cycles travelled around the Square at will.
