Napier wool eases

PA Napier Wool was slightly in buyers’ favour at the first day of the two-day Napier wool sale yesterday, according to the official report. The market was quoted as being animated with competition widely spread. The main competition, however, came from Eastern Europe, and the Continent, supported by New Zealandcarpet mills, with limited support from China. Although the market was said to be slightly in buyers’ favour generally, secondshear lambs’ wool was quoted as being 2 per cent dearer. The offering was 25,607 bales of greasy wool and 2003 of scoured wool. Only two brokers sold yesterday, the remaining two catalogues of 25,650 bales will be sold tomorrow. Sixty per cent was full fleece, 15 per cent was early-shear and secondshear, about 7 'per cent lambs’ wool, and 5 per cent hogget fleece. The Wool Board did not bid. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 281.38 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 13.7 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on Monday to midnight last night. The market was 380.
