Obituary
Rev. Carl Venz
A former president of the Lutheran Church of New Zealand, the Rev. Carl Venz, died in Christchurch last week. He was 92. Mr Venz was born in Queensland but his early career was spent working mostly in South Australia before coming to New Zealand in 1931 to serve at Upper Moutere, near Nelson.
While there, he served as president of the Church from 1938 to 1958. He re-
tired about seven years later and moved to Christchurch, although he continued to give relief assistance in parishes throughout New Zealand.
Special services were held at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Christchurch to celebrate the fiftieth and sixtieth anniversaries of his ordination and his sixty-fifth anniversary was recognised in 1981.
Mr. Venz is survived by his wife, and nine adult children.
