A.T.C. withdraws TV rights

The Auckland Trotting Club has withdrawn permission for live television coverage of the New Zealand Messenger on December 29 and also the Auckland Cup on February 3. The Auckland club is dissatisfied with a decision of the executive of the Trotting Conference over the distribution of television fees. The executive decided that the fees should be shared equally by the conference and the club concerned. The moneys going to the conference would be used for promotional purposes.

For the last two years fees paid by Television New Zealand have all gone to the conference, in line with the policy of the Racing Conference. As a result of a reconsideration of the matter by the executive, after consultations with the Auckland and Metropolitan Trotting Clubs, it was agreed that the fees should be split equally between the conference and the clubs. The question will be further considered by the executive at its next meeting to be held in Dunedin on January 25.
