Travelling light in summer
Ideal for travelling light in summer, either hiking or mountaineering, is the new Twilight tent (pictured right at John McEwings, Cashel Street). Consisting of nylon and two aircraft aluminium loops, this new lightweight breed of tent weighs only 2.5 kg but has plenty of room for two people and their equipment. Its near-vertical walls provide almost 50 per cent more useable volume than A-framed tents of similar area. The Twilight is simple to pitch — just thread the two shock-corded poles through their loops, peg out the four corners, and clip on the fly. Of particular interest is the two-layer material, with a breathing, nylon inner wall which allows the condensation to pass through and run down on the outside layer. This eliminates water build-up inside the tent, and even the inside formation of ice at higher altitudes.
