Mr Birch off overseas
PA Wellington The Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, will hold talks with the Saudi Arabian Oil Minister, Sheik Yamani, during an extensive overseas trip next month. The talks will centre on international trade in oil, including O.P.E.C. supply and price policies. Mr Birch is scheduled to visit the United States,
Britain, France, Thailand, and Australia, as well as Saudi Arabia in January. His talks with Sheik Yamani will be in his capacity as chairman of the International Energy Agency. In Thailand, Mr Birch will hold talks on possible opportunities for New’ Zealand assistance in that country’s energy programme. He will have discussions
on the development and use of natural gas resources in Western Australia, and visit a shale oil plant in Colorado. In Britain, he will hold talks with Petroleum Economics, Ltd, on the present world oil scene and meet the Minister of State for Energy, Mr Walker. Mr Birch will leave on January 5 and will return at the end of the month.
