Price increases approved
PA Wellington The Trade and Industry Department has approved a further 27 hardship exemptions from the price freeze. In the week ended November 30, nine were declined and four withdrawn. A further 35 applications were received.
During the same period the department received 101 complaints of price-freeze breaches. More than a quarter of these concerned groceries.
Investigation was completed on 71 complaints. In eight cases the prices charged were found to be out of order. Applications approved included: Abel Driving School, Christchurch, increases in truck and trailer tuition of 14 to 21 per cent. Akaroa Village (1983), an
increase of 20 per cent in motel tariffs. Jim Bull Potato Co. Ltd, Marton, an average increase of 8 per cent on frozen potato products. Oxford Lime Co. Ltd, Christchurch, increases ranging from $6 to $7.35 for lime.
Riverlands Meat Co. Christchurch, increases ranging from $1.35 to $8.36 in killing fees.
“Wairarapa News,” increases ranging from 13c to 18c a column in advertising rates.
Consequential dispensation under regulation 118 (6), and permitting increased prices on account of increased costs of leather: E. R. Griffiths and Co. Ltd, Christchurch, on leather baby harnesses.
Correction for week ended November 23, 1983: La Baguette French Bakery, Ltd, an increase of 3c for French bread and croissants.
