Burglars drop safe
PA Auckland Burglars who stole a safe containing about $50,000 in cash and jewels from an Onehunga shop dropped their booty in the street outside as they fled from the police early yesterday. Detective Sergeant O. M. Mitchell said the burglars had disconnected the alarm from Brownson’s Jewellers in the Onehunga Mall before breaking in through a side door about 12.30 a.m.
The police believe the offenders had earlier tried to steal a safe from a nearby chemist’s shop.
