Collapse of gangway

PA Wellington A telescopic gangway being built to accommodate the new Cook Strait rail ferry Arahura collapsed on Tuesday only three weeks before the ship is due to enter service. If it cannot be repaired in time, a temporary gangway will be built, so that the planned first sailing of the Arahura, on December 21, will not be affected, according to the Wellington Harbour Board’s chief engineer, Mr Karl Renner.
