Aust. in command
NZPA-Reuter Brisbane The former Australian captain, Greg Chappell, scored an unbeaten 150 as his side moved into a commanding position in the second cricket test against Pakistan yesterday. Allan Border backed him up with 118 runs and at the close on the third day Pakistan was in deep trouble and its only hope was a draw as it trailed by 311 runs over-all.
Australia, after Border and Chappell shared in a 171-run fifth wicket partnership, de-
dared its first innings at 509 for seven wickets after tea.
This left Pakistan, which scored only 156 in its first innings on the first day, 353 runs behind and the openers, Mohsin Khan and Mudassar Nazar, had nearly an hour facing Australia’s pace attack. But they got their heads down and, when bad light stopped play 20 minutes before the official close, Pakistan was 42 without loss, Khan on 25 and Mudassar Nazar on 15.
