Gilchrist runner-up in Wgtn
PA Wellington Brent Addison, of Wellington, gave a career-best performance to win the Nike Wellington 15km road race from Canterbury’s Michael Gilchrist yesterday. Addison finished in 46m 14s over the winding roads around Oriental BayMiramar Peninsula and Kilbirnie. He had to belt it out over the last 3km, firstly to overcome the 70m lead built up by Gilchrist and then to hold a sufficient margin over Gilchrist to nullify the Cantabrian’s fast finish. Gilchrist’s time was 46:30. The women’s event was won by Mary O’Connor (Canterbury), 54:16, from Sue Bruce (Otago), 55:26.
