Braithwaite moving north?
Keith Braithwaite, consistently the best Christchurch Mogal United player in last season’s Rothmans Soccer League, might be moving north for 1984. He has been made a firm offer by Mount Wellington, which will be one of five clubs -from the Auckland region in next year’s competition. Braithwaite, who has been with United for the
past two seasons, described the offer as “fairly good.” The Liverpool-born midfielder, who was named the team’s “player of the year” in 1983 by United’s supporters’ club, is considering the bid by the strong Auckland club, which has won five league titles since 1970. In addition, he has been approached by another national league club, Well-
ington Diamond United. However, the 26-year-old is reluctant to leave Christchurch, but has heard nothing from United regarding a renewal of his contract. United is in the process of appointing a new coach to replace Terry Conley, who has resigned and taken up a position as the Canterbury Football Association’s regional coach.
