Sydenham waits for cricket points
Sydenham finished its firstgrade cricket against St Albans last Saturday with a first innings win, but as yet it has received no official recognition of that feat by the Canterbury Cricket Association. At a C.C.A. management committee meeting last evening, it was recommended by the competitions committee that neither team be awarded points as no result card was received by the required time. However, the matter is to be reviewed. A letter from Sydenham was received in which it apologised for the late filing of the result card. According to the Sydenham letter, confusion arose between the scorers of both teams and the Sydenham captain thought the St Albans scorer had the issue under control. Sydenham asked for its points to be awarded and the competitions committee will consider the letter before making a final recommendation.
Lancaster Park Oval will be used for the first time this season for first grade cricket when Park meets BurnsideWest University on Saturday. However, several management committee members were unhappy that should in-
clement weather affect the ground, the final say as to whether the pitch would be fit for play would rest with the Victory Park Board rather than the appointed umpires. Another matter which did not meet with universal approval was the subject of covers for senior pitches — an issue which has proved contentious in the past. The East-Shirley delegate, Mr R. B. Parlane, said that his club hoped to have covers available for use for the next round. However, a motion was put that covers not be used until next season. It was lost decisively, but it was agreed by the meeting that first-class conditions would not apply in regard to the use of covers and that any club using covers must continue to do so for the whole game. Parking around the boundaries will be allowed for Canterbury’s limited-over - match against Wellington at Burnside Park on Sunday. The match will start at 11 a.m. and admission will be $l. Mr P. A. Sharp said that he had heard appreciative com- * ments from players involved in the fast bowlers’ clinic held for 10 selected bowlers by the former New Zealand cricketer, Dayle Hadlee, last Sunday.
