Cabaret given free Venue
The Christchurch Festival’s cabaret next, year will be held in the Limes Room at the Christchurch Town Hall free of charge.. The Town Hall board has ? decided to let the .room to i the festival for nothing. The ( free use of the room and.its . associated catering and bar .. facilities would be a Vain- - , able contribution .towards i the success of the festival, said the acting' Town Hall ' manager, Mr Cliff Wilson, -.j yesterday. • The Town Hall would benefit in return from the i food and bar service during <': the . cabaret ■ The Limes . Room would be ' and fitted with a good stage and lighting for the . occasion. Opening on March 3 for two weeks, the festival cabaret is intended to be a meeting place for festival artists and their audietees. In addition to a resident jazz band, the cabaret will , feature special guest artists,
some of them appearing at other festival events. Others will appear only at the cabaret. . Among the special guests will be a pianist, Mike Nock; a singer, Malcolm McNeill; the Limbs Dance Company, the Topp Twins; the Australian close-har-mony vocal comedians, Polyphony, Stiff Glue; and Steve Thomas. 'Malcolm McNeill and Mike Nock will come to Christchurch from Australia and the North Island especially for the cabaret and will not take part in any other festival events. Limited door sales to the festival cabaret will be available each evening at $7.50 a head. Free admission to all 12 cabaret evenings will be given to people who take up membership (at $25) of the festival cabaret. Cabaret members, restricted to 500, will receive a cabaret card which must be presented at the door each evening.
