Rugby league test teams named
NZPA London Great Britain has named two new caps for its amateur rugby league test against the unbeaten New Zealand Maoris at The Boulevarde, Hull, on Saturday. They, are Wigan St Patrick’s Andy Bailey, the Great Britain youth fullback last year, and the Cumbrian scrum-half, Ged Goligy, from Holker Pioneers. Great Britain has lost only two internationals since the formation of the British Amateur Rugby League Association in 1973 and is unbeaten at home. Leading his country for the first time is the Millom centre, Jim Bawden, who switches to loose forward. The Maoris, who have won all six games of their eight-match tour so far, play the Oldham league at the Watersheddings this morning, the last provincial game before Saturday’s test. The tourists will be deter-
mined to keep their 100 per cent record but Sid Miller, the Oldham coach, said: “We aim to become the first team to beat the Maoris and they can expect a hard game.” The test teams are:— GREAT BRITAIN: Bailey (Wigan St Patricks), McGowan (Dewsbury Celtic), Andrews (Beecroft, Hull), Collinson (N.D.L.8., Hull), Cirtchenson (Ace, Hull), Denman (Mysons, Hull), Goligy (Holker Pioneers, Cumbria), Wheeler (Locklane, Castleford), Brown (Locklane, Castleford), O’Connor (Yew Tree, Leeds), Cottrell (Leigh Miners), Disken (Dewsbury. Celtic), Bawden (Millom, Cumbria). MAORIS: Nick Wright, Cedric Lovett, Joe Rapati, Dean Bell, Lou Kupa, Nolan Tupaea, Clayton Friend, Ricky Cowan, Trevor Clark, lan Bell, Russell Tuuta, Kevin Schaumkell, Hugh McGahan. Reserves: Chas Paki, Tom Waitai, Owen Wright, Pat Poasa.
