Tavern’s milk on tap

PA Wellington Hot-blooded young males are being tempted by the likes of Cleopatra’s Cooler in a Wellington tavern. The concoction is an upmarket variation of a very ordinary drink — milk. It started flowing yesterday at the 1860 tavern, test site for the Milkflo selfservice dispensing machine supplied by the Milk Board. The machines will be installed at five more Wellington hotels in the next six months.

A million pints of milk have been sold through Milkflo in Britain since it

became available there 12 months ago. The Milk Board’s chairman, Mr Dudley Lane, said that milk on tap was being aimed at young males, who are the most accident-prone group of drivers. “We see milk in pubs as part of the answer,” he said. Drinkers who do not fancy milk cocktails can get a handle of the plain old white stuff and the technology guarantees it will be cold.

If, within three minutes, the unit has not been used, the milk in the pipe is automatically returned to cold storage of 4deg.
