Transport Board
Sir,—Your report of the inaugural meeting of the Christchurch Transport Board said that Mr Geoff Stone “was a voice in the wilderness . . . virtually ignored by the seven Citizens’ members.” I disagree with the impression conveyed. Mr Stone was made most welcome by all board members before the meeting and treated with the utmost fairness during it. The overriding impression of members of the new board is that they wish to run the bus services without the intrusion of any political party and ensure that they make their own individual contribution of ideas arid comments. Mrs Garrett and Mr Stone have both been elected to serve on one committee — planning and finance. The two members elected to serve on two committees are newcomers and should help with ideas for developments. All members have equal opportunities to express their opinions at board and committee level. — Yours, etc., P. V. NEARY. Chairman, Christchurch, Transport Board. November 2, 1983.
