General forecast: A cold front will move slowly over the south of the South Island and a shallow trough from the west will bring outbreaks of rain. Along the east coast it should be mainly dry. District forecasts: Canterbury: Rain about the Alps and a few falls further east but dry elsewhere; north-westerlies inland, moderate northeasterlies on the coast; mild.
