Newchairman
The Austrian Socialist Party has elected the Chancellor, Dr Fred Sinowatz, to succeed Dr Bruno Krtiticy as party chairman by a vote of 482-3, ending nearly 17 years of Krtisky leadership. Dr Kretsky, who resigned as Chancellor after Socialist setbads in elections to April, was elected honorary chairman for life on a vote of acclamation. The change,'as expected, came near the end of a Sodalist Party congress. Conservative gains to the April election deprived the Socialists of the absolute majority they had hdd for 13 years under Dr Krtisky’s leadership and the Socialists now. govern to coalition with the >. smaller Freedom Party.—Vienna.
