Samoan council formed
PA . Wellington A national Samoan council has been formed after a meeting of representatives of the Auckland and Wellington Samoan advisory councils in Wellington. The new council’s secretary, Mr Galumalemana Hunkin, of Wellington, yesterday described it as a historic occasion and said it marked the coming of age for the Samoan community in New Zealand. . The national council will represent the collective voice of the Samoan community, particularly in dealing with matters of interest in New Zealand, he said. It was also a body that would be able to express the concerns of Samoans in dealing with different Government departments and other institutions. Mr Hunkin said that the council would also liaise direct with the Samoan Government and would be looking for support for its work from Samoan churches and community groups.
