Current account deficit rises
PA Wellington New Zealand’s current account deficit for September increased to $203 million. the Reserve Bank said yesterday that this com-
pared with a surplus of $36 million the previous month and a deficit of $124 million in September last year. For the year ended September, 1983, the current account deficit was $778 million, compared with a deficit of $699 million foor the year ended August and $1747 million for the year ended September, 1982. The bank’s overseas exchange transaction statistics record New Zealand’s transactions with the rest of the world on a cash basis. Export receipts in the year ended September were 13 per cent higher than in the previous year, with all categories of exports with the exception of forest products recording a positive annual growth rate, the bank said.
