Revolution supported

PA Wellington Young Socialists, the youth wing of the Socialist Action League, yesterday condemned the Americanled invasion of Grenada, claiming that many young Maoris and Pacific Islanders in New Zealand supported Grenada’s revolution. The national co-ordinator, Mr Eugen Sua-File, pledging solidarity with “our Grenadan and Cuban brothers and sisters,” said a youth for Grenada campaign in New Zealand last year raised $lOOO for Grenadans to use in sports and education.

“During the campaign we found that most support came from young Maori and Pacific Islanders,” he said. “These young people identified with it, not only because it was the first Eng-lish-speaking black revolution, but it was an island nation crippled by colonial domination, like many islands in the South Pacific such as Vanuatu and New Caledonia.”
