Close racing in OKs

Some close racing in the O.K. Dinghy class was one of the features when the second heats of the Epiglass Estuary Pennants were sailed yesterday. Mark Crossin, sailing Noddy Tactics, had his second successive win in the class, but only 12s separated the first three yachts. Crossin, a schoolboy, finished only 2s ahead of Paul Bamford, in Nam Nam, and Michael Bamford, like his brother a New Zealand representative at the recent world championships, was third another 10s back, in Razor Face.

Altogether 126 yachts competed in 16 classes with the fleet reduced a little because of the overcast conditions and cold south-west-erlies.

The Optimists were even closer than the O.K.’s with Griff Simpson, in Moby Dick, only 9s in front of the third place-getter. He leads the class, after a second placing in the first heat four weeks ago. In the Zephyrs only Is separated the first two yachts in a class which attracted 16 entries. Paul Stemmer, in Gamble, just held out Ken Maynard, in Runaway, which has the over-all points lead from Zippy (Sandra Hines). Apart from Crossin there were four other double winners in the various classes.
