Helper’s car taken
PA Dunedin A man whose stolen car crashed and burst into flames took another car when its driver stopped to see if he was hurt, the police said on Saturday. The first car was taken from Gore early on Saturday and crashed several miles to the north at the Otaikerama bridge. A driver who stopped had his car taken and police from Gore, Clinton, Balclutha, and Dunedin gave chase. The Gore police said there were several minor marks on the body of the second stolen car as a result of the driver’s efforts to fend off pursuing police cars. The chase ended about 7 a.m. when a Gore man was arrested after being stopped in Dunedin. He will face charges of failing to stop, reckless driving, and two of unlawfully taking a motor-vehicle when he appears in the District Court at Gore today.
