Four jockeys suspended

PA Wellington Prominent Central Districts jockeys, Maree Lyndon, Garry Phillips and Maurice Campbell, were suspended by the judicial committee of the Rangitikei Racing Club at Awapuni on Saturday. Lyndon and Phillips were both stood down for two effective riding days, while Campbell received one day. Peter Harris was suspended for one day as well and the Woodville trainer, Murray Baker, Was fined $25. Lyndon was suspended after her ride on Ben Bolton in the Apprentices’ Handicap. Near the 1200 m and again near the 1000 m, Still Going Strong (M. Hodgson) was severely bumped when

Ben Bolton was racing on its outside. Lyndon was charged with careless riding and later suspended up to and including this Friday. She will miss Hastings on Wednesday and Stratford on Friday. Garry Phillips will not ride at those two meetings either. Approximately 200 m after the start of the McKelvie handicap, there was crowding to Frederick The Great (P. Mercer), and Beau Charade (J. Cassidy) with a severe check to Retsina (M. Lyndon) and, to a lesser degree, Fantastic (B. Griffin). At the time of the incident those runners had on their outside Page Boy (G.

Phillips). Stanley Frank (M. Campbell) was observed to be checked as well. Phillips was charged with careless riding in that he allowed his mount to move inwards when not being the required distance ahead. He was suspended up to and including this Friday. At the top of the straight in the Muriwai Maiden No 2 and shortly after turning for home, both Half Crescent (M. Campbell), on the inside, and Gossip (J. Cassidy), outside, came in sharp contact with each other. At the subsequent inquiry Campbell and Cassidy were charged with careless riding in allowing their mounts to move off line and sharply

bump one another. The judicial committee found that it could not be conclusively proved that either rider was at fault in the first incident. However, they found that in the second incident Campbell had infringed the rule by trying to move out of the situation he found himself in.

Campbell was suspended up to an including this Wednesday and will miss Hastings. Shortly after entering the home straight in the Advance Handicap, there was crowding to Timandra Blaze (B. Griffin) and Paddy Coyle (C. Cossill) with a resultant check to Blue Silk
