Mr Birch opens pipeline
PA Whangarei The Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, has opened a natural gas pipeline linking Northland with the gas source in Taranaki. The distribution system cost more than $32 million. Mr Birch said that natural gas would displace an estimated 29,000 tonnes of fuel oil next year and save the country $7 million in overseas funds.
The Refinery White Products line from Marsden Point to bulk terminals in Wiri was now the longest high-pressure liquids line in New Zealand and would carry more than a million tonnes of refined products a year, he said.
