Bottle Lake forest

Sir,—With reference to the proposed access route to the Waimairi Beach landfill site, could someone please inform me what will happen to all the joggers and horseriders who frequent the lovely tracks of the Bottle Lake forest? Being one of the latter, and finally finding a place where you can ride safely, with no worries of broken glass, trucks, and motorists who like to play “See how close you can get to the horse without actually hitting it,” I am upset to think that we will again be left to struggle along the busy roads while dirty great rubbish trucks pound up and down the forest. — Yours, etc., J. E. KENNY. August 24, 1983.

[The General Manager and Town Clerk of Christchurch, Mr J. H. Gray, replies: “It is acknowledged that the proposed access route to the landfill does cut across some of the existing walking tracks and horse-riding trails, and although this aspect was carefully considered, some conflict was unavoidable. However, it will not be difficult to reroute these tracks

away from the access route and once the final decision on the access is announced, the matter will be considered further.”]
