New look for loco
The diesel-electric locomotive No. 2255 will get a new spruce of paint before it goes on show at Ferrymead Historical Park.
The 70-tonne Dg class locomotive was recently moved to the park after it was bought by the Diesel
Traction Group. It is the first post-war built railway locomotive to be exhibited at the park and the group hopes to run it on special occasions. The unit will be returned to its original 1955 colour scheme and will be given its pre-computer number, Dg 772.
The Dg class has historic* importance as the first mainline diesel-electric locomotives to see service in the South Island.
The group also bought a Vb meat waggon to house spare parts for the locomotive.
Another new display at the park is a former Wellington Ed class electric locomotive, bought by the electric locomotive subcommittee of the Ferrymead Railway. The locomotive was bought some time ago and has been stored at the Linwood locomotive depot for two years.
