Prince ‘loses temper’

NZPA London Prince Edward lost his temper and punched an opponent during a college rugby match yesterday. The blows, from Prince Edward's clenched fist, landed on a rival player’s back, the “Sun” newspaper reports. The “Sun” said that Hugh Bethel, the rival player, did not retaliate during the Cambridge match between Jesus College and the Prince's Girton College. Jesus eventually won 18-4. The flare-up happened in the final two minutes of the game. In the hurly-burly of a scrum, Prince Edward, aged 19, felt himself being pulled by the scruff of the neck and immediately lashed out, said the “Sun.” The bad-tempered incident did not seem to cause any ill-feeling, and the two opponents shook hands as they left the field. But afterwards in the dressing room, Hugh complained about the Prince's

behaviour in the scrum. He later refused to talk about the incident and team mates brushed it off. Prince Edward barely touched the ball during the game, but his captain, Peter Higgins, was pleased with his play. “It was a vast improvement by the Prince and the whole of the team,” he said.
