Steady Edition expected to go close at Addington

By

G. K. YULE

Steady Edition is one of the more talented four-year-olds in Canterbury and he looks poised to carry on his winning way in the Bakano Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington Raceway this evening.

Steady Edition was an easy last-start winner over a sprint distance at Methven on September 24. The opposition is quite a bit stronger in this field, but if he races up to his best form, he should master them quite competently. Best Dream is the problem horse in the field. The free-legged six-year-old has broken in three starts since he gained two eye-catching wins earlier in the season. He has ability far above

that of most in this race and he will only have to get his act together to put Steady Edition to the supreme test. Family Fun, third to Lucky Boy in the D.B. Superstar Series Final last month, followed up that placing with a comfortable win on the first night of the present meeting. He will start from 10m this time, a handicap unlikely to stop him getting right into the thick of the finish.

Roydon Magic was runner-up to Family Fun last Wednesday and a rather unlucky fourth at the end of a fast-run 3200 m at Motukarara last Saturday. He is racing most generously and should be close to the money. Bahrein, Castle Del and Knowing Charlie are also racing to good purpose and they will have their followers, at least on the place totalisator.

Rapid Lustre was a shade

disappointing when she tired to sixth over 2000 m last week, but she could make amends in the second leg, the Max Bowden Standardbred Stakes, a mile race for mares and fillies. She has high speed and from a handy barrier position, she looks capable of setting her rivals a merry chase. Delark and Muricata Miss are in form, and, along with Rosy Dawn, Rosewood Jane and Rosewood Dream, they appeal most of the others.
