Panda programme

A “National Geographic” wildlife programme, “Giant Pandas of Mountain China,” will be screened in the “Our World” slot on Two tonight.

Perhaps no other animal evokes more interest and curiosity to mankind than the panda. It has become an international symbol of wildlife preservation yet we know little about it. The Sanda is not only very rare ut is also very shy. “Giant Pandas of, Moun-

tain China” documents the pioneering work of Dr George Shaller (New York Zoological Society) and Professor Hu Jinchu (one of China’s leading panda experts) to better understand and help save China’s population of mountain pandas. A camera crew received exclusive permission to film the activities of Dr Shaller and the Chinese scientists at Wolong National Reserve during March, April and May of 1982.
