Fire causes wool losses

PA Napier Fire raced through the scour and wool storage area of Louis Wood and Sons Woolscourers at Awatoto near Napier on Friday night, causing millions of dollars worth of damage. Fire-fighting was hampered by a shortage of water until a dam was built. Tankers ran a shuttle service to bring in supplies from surrounding industries to hold the fire.

Up to 100 firemen were involved and units were called from all fire stations between Bay View and Havelock North.
